Drinking Water.
"The Unforgotten" is helping villagers in the poorest regions of the world gain
access to safe drinking water.  Villagers in remote areas often drink stagnant
water from natural and man-made ponds without any purification process in
place.

  • We install hand pumps to draw clean water from the ground.  The
average cost of installing a hand pump, along with maintenance of the
pump for 5 years, is approximately $500.

  • Where demand is outstripping supply (causing the water table to be
falling rapidly), we install rainwater harvesting systems.  We began a hill-
top water harvesting project, in Pune, India, in March 2009.
WHAT WE DO:
Education
Children of wastepickers:
“The Unforgotten” is undertaking Project “Pick Up School!” to
educate children who, instead of going to school, were looking
through trash for items of value, in order to contribute to their
family's income.
Meet our kids!

  • We target children that live on or near landfills.

  • We target children whose parents are also "wastepickers" (those
who eke out a living by looking through trash, for items of value).

Orphans:
We also sponsor children from orphanages.
WHO WE ARE:
We are a not for profit charity; donations to the Unforgotten are tax deductible under
Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.  We share the UN's vision of
promoting sustainable development in the poorest areas of this planet, as encoded
in the
Millennium Development Goals.  In particular, we are focusing on the goals to:

  • halve, by 2015, the proportion of people who are unable to reach or to afford
    safe drinking water.

  • achieve, by 2015, universal primary education.

  • eradicate extreme poverty, and to halve by 2015, the proportion of people
whose income is less than $1 per day).
